Georgia Upends Florida in Border War
January 7, 2011 was considered a final high school football game for a group of players from Southwest GA & the Big Bend (Tallahassee, FL), area. The 4th annual Border War was held in Tallahassee, FL at Bragg stadium, on the campus of Florida A&M University. The GA all-stars beat the FL all-stars, 49-20. Miller County's T. T. Barbour was named GA offensive MVP. Mitchell County's Derrick Davis threw for four touchdowns, with two of them going to fellow teammates, Yancey Burns & Desmond Jones. All eight MCE players played a significant role in the Border War. Grover Stewart & Freddy Pate protected Davis on the offensive line. Jay Jenkins & Modzelle Atkins also caught passes from Davis to give GA good field position; Modzelle's catch set up Desmond Jones' TD. Last but not least, Jontae Moore had a strong defensive game, alongside Pelham's Steve Mango & Kenya Douglas, as they helped keep FL out of the end zone. The all-stars from Southwest GA enjoyed their week of bonding & capped it off with a hard-hitting game against FL with a big win.
